Call for Papers

BILETA Conference 2018 warmly invites individuals to attend and participate in its critical and topical discussions on the future of law, technology and legal education. Papers are welcome from academics, researchers, practitioners, postgraduate students, those in business or practice, activists and anyone else with an interest. Participants are welcome from any country to enjoy the scholarly, social and cultural experience of BILETA. In 2018 we will meet at the University Aberdeen - one of Scotland’s ancient universities, established by Papal Bull in 1495.

Digital technology provides an increasing number of opportunities, which bring with them legal and regulatory challenges. Can the pre internet analogue solutions, and intellectual property and human rights frameworks, continue to be stretched? Can Internet based approaches be applied to the cloud and contemporary security challenges? Does technology remove social and cultural norms and practices, or does it create new ones, while preserving and developing the old? Does and can legal education drive technology and social attitudes? Does and can technology and social attitudes drive legal education and student and academic experiences?

The BILETA Conference 2018 encourages new and creative explorations of these and other contemporary law, education and technology questions, including through the crossing of disciplinary boundaries and innovative research and pedagogic methods.  This year a particular emphasis will be placed on energy, sustainability, cultural, rural and development challenges.
