On behalf of the Australian Society for Antimicrobials, I would like to invite you to the Society's 19th Annual Scientific Meeting "Antimicrobials 2018" to be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane, on Thursday 22nd - Saturday 24th February 2018.
I am pleased to announce Lance Price, George Washington University, USA; Matthew Holden, University of St Andrews, UK; and Greg Cook, University of Otago, New Zealand will be participating at the meeting. Lance will be presenting the plenary "Food Producing Animals as a Source of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)", Matthew will be presenting "Using Genomics to AMR in Hospitals", and Greg will be presenting the plenary "Targeting mycobacterial energetics to fight drug-resistant tuberculosis".
The 2018 Howard Florey Oration will be delivered by John Turnidge, University of Adelaide, South Australia.
The programme's symposia cover many different aspects on antimicrobials and sessions include "Drug Discovery and Therapeutic Options", "The Environment as a Source of AMR", "Rise of the Superbugs", "The Immunocompromised Host", "Linking Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Laboratory Diagnostics: The Role of the Laboratory in AMS", and "The Future of the Diagnostic Microbiology Laboratory". In addition, we have two pharmacy symposia on Saturday afternoon titled "AMS" and "Drugs and Bugs". Three literature review sessions will also be presented, including "The Year in Clinical Microbiology" (Sally Roberts, New Zealand), "The Year in AMS" (Kirsty Buising, Victoria), and "The Year in AMR and Therapy" (Trent Yarwood, Queensland). Six proffered papers and two poster sessions are also planned for the meeting.
To promote discussion and interaction between delegates and the invited speakers, the meeting's registration includes lunches, morning and afternoon teas and admission to the Howard Florey Dinner.
I am confident that you will find the meeting's program both scientifically stimulating and informative, and we look forward to meeting you in Brisbane.
